The Kings Arms

Significant Building

  • Historic period: Early Victorian: 1837-1850
  • This is a significant building
  • Current Use: Restaurant

The Kings Arms is on the site of an ancient Coaching Inn and hostel for the homeless and has been a resting place on route to reach the river at Ratcliffe since at least 1600.  It was rebuilt as the Kings Arms Tavern and Hemmingway’s Saloon as part of the development of the Beaumont Estate, in early C18th.  Now a Mediterranean restaurant with flats above it reflects the changing use of buildings, fashions and tastes of the area.
