According to John Cawte Beaglehole, Captain Cook's home at Assembly Row, later 88 Mile End Road, was demolished in 1959 despite having a London City Council commemorative plaque affixed to it in 1907,to make way for a brewery! It's been replaced within the blue plaque scheme by Greater London Council in 1970. There are proposals for developing the site and rebuilding the house as a museum dedicated to Captain Cook.
