The current buildings were opened in 1985 (East London Mosque) and 2004 (Cultural Centre), but the East London Mosque and Cultural Centre held it’s first prayer in 1940 in three converted houses on Commercial Road. Today, the prayer hall of the building can hold 5,000 people, and the Mosque has one of the youngest congregations in the UK.
