The Albert Stern House has a historical link to the Spanish & Portuguese Sephardi Jewish community which has a long association with the area. It is in front of and associated with the Velho cemetery which was established in 1657 and is the oldest surviving Jewish cemetery in Britain. The date of establishment is significant as it is also the time when the Jewish community re-established itself in Britain.Today, the building is student accommodation for Queen Mary University of London.
