This pool was built by the recommendation of the Council for Baths and Washhouses to address a need for more baths in East London. It served Stepney Green for nearly fifty years, until it was closed down in order for the council to save money. It was reopened ten years later as a clinic for sufferers of HIV and AIDS. At the height of the AIDS crisis, this was a very important institution, which opened despite local fear of the kind of people it would bring to the area. New renamed e-positive, it continues in this role.
