Built in 1717, Nos 107-103 are one of the first unifrom terraces in London. This important row of houses almost did not survive. They were converted into shops in the early 19th century and fell into disrepair by 1979, when a local newspaper reported that the houses are ‘fine examples of their times. Yet they are decaying and nothing has been done to stop the rot’. They were bought in the 1980s in this state by the Spitafields Trust (a conservation charity) and renovated by Gus Alexander Architects for sale as part of a rolling programme to provide funds for other similar projects.
